Seed Your Own GBP Q&A: The 8 Questions Homeowners Ask Before They Call, Answered on Your Listing
Before a homeowner ever calls, they've already asked your Google Business Profile a handful of questions in their head. Do you actually serve my zip code? Do you charge for the estimate? How fast can you get here? Most contractor GBPs never answer any of it — the Q&A section sits empty, or worse, it's full of questions strangers asked and answered wrong. Seed it yourself with the 8 questions homeowners actually have, and you turn a blank tab into a page that pre-sells the call before it happens.
Why an empty Q&A section is a missed booking, not a neutral one
Google lets anyone — not just you — post a question and anyone else answer it. Leave it empty and a competitor's customer, a random searcher, or nobody fills it in; leave it too long and you'll eventually see a bad answer from someone who's never worked with you sitting on your own listing. Homeowners read Q&A sections the same way they read reviews: as the unfiltered version of the sales pitch. An empty one reads as "nobody's checked in years." A filled one reads as active and trustworthy before they've dialed a single digit.
The 8 questions worth answering first
These are the ones a homeowner is actually thinking about in the 30 seconds before they decide to call or keep scrolling:
- Do you service my area? (Answer with actual city/county names, not "the surrounding region")
- Is the estimate free?
- How fast can someone come out?
- Are you licensed and insured?
- Do you offer financing or payment plans?
- Do you handle emergency or same-day calls?
- What brands or materials do you work with?
- Do you offer a warranty on the work?
Answer each one in two or three plain sentences — no marketing copy, just the straight answer a person would give on the phone. That tone is exactly what makes it feel trustworthy instead of scripted.
Post them from your own account, not as "anonymous"
Both the question and the answer can come from you — ask the question from a personal Google account, then answer it from the account tied to the business listing. Google doesn't hide that these are self-seeded, and homeowners don't care that they are; a straight answer that solves their exact question reads as helpful regardless of who typed the question first. What actually damages trust is a vague or evasive answer, not the fact that you got ahead of the question.
Keep the door open after you seed it
A seeded Q&A section isn't "set and forget." Check it every few weeks — that's exactly where a random visitor's question, or a competitor testing your listing, tends to show up first, and an unanswered question sitting there for months undoes the work you just did. If you're already logging into GBP to check reviews or reviewing your review-response process, add Q&A to that same five-minute pass.
Where this fits with everything else on your profile
Q&A works alongside the rest of your listing, not instead of it — it's a smaller lift than a full profile overhaul but closes a gap those bigger pieces don't touch. If you haven't already tackled how to pick your primary GBP category or built out your photo library, Q&A is the fastest of the three to knock out in one sitting.
